Ontario Electricity Support Program
The Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP) is an Ontario Energy Board (OEB) program that helps reduce electricity bills of low-income households with a monthly on-bill credit to eligible customers.
To qualify, applicants must receive an electricity bill and meet certain household income standards. Eligible consumers will receive a credit on their bill of between $30 to $50 a month. Some information that you will be required to have when applying to the program are:
- Your electricity bill
- Names and birthdays of all residents in the home as registered with the Canada Revenue Agency
- Social Insurance Numbers, Individual Tax Numbers or temporary taxation numbers
Eligible customers will receive a credit on their bill of between $35 to $75 a month.
Effective March 1, 2024, the income thresholds are:

If your home is electrically heated, or you rely on medical devices requiring a lot of electricity, OESP offers a higher level of assistance. First Nations or Metis will also qualify for a higher level of assistance.
It is important to note that credit amounts have not changed but a customer’s household situation may have changed (i.e., the number of people living in the household or the amount of income).
Customers who have experienced a change in their household situation must re-apply for the program.
If a customer’s household situation has not changed, but they may be eligible for a higher credit after March 1, 2024, they should contact the OESP Call Centre to get directions on next steps.
For more information with regards to the OESP, we encourage you to view the link below for the easy 3 step process the Ontario Energy Board has prepared:

Recipients are required to re-apply for program assistance every 2 years or when their circumstances change (e.g., moving or a change in income).
Recipients over the age of 65 or receiving a disability benefit under the Canada Pension Plan will still be required re-apply every 5 years.
